Totem poles have deep meaning to the Carcross-Tagish people, representing clan stories and accomplishments. The Carcross-Tagish carving program started in 2006 and is housed in the carving shed by the Carcross Commons. The program teaches local youth carving practices and has been producing the totem poles and other carvings seen around town. If you are interested in seeing the carvers at work, drop by the Parks Canada office in the Skookum Jim House across the parking lot from the carving shed. They can help arrange a tour.
